April 2012

Each year, Pantone – the authority on all things color – selects a fresh and stylish hue as Color of the Year. For 2012, it’s lovely and vibrant Tangerine Tango. Chosen for its “sophisticated and dramatic undertones,” tangerine is already being seen on runways and red carpets alike, proving that what women truly want is an energetic, uplifting boost of color.

To choose the color of the year, Pantone experts search the globe to find hues that are having an effect on music, media, and art. The decision influences not only fashion, but also cosmetics, decor, and other forms of design. Of this year’s pick, Pantone executive director Leatrice Eiseman says, “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Fashionistas can work this bright orangey-red into their closets on a dime with our favorite tangerine pieces under $100 (shopping details below). Pair it with aqua blue, black, white, navy, or even hot pink, or brighten up your spring/summer makeup with a pop of tangerine on the lips. However you choose to wear it, let tangerine help you express the burst of energy you feel in 2012.
